The netball team won in spectacular fashion during a recent fixture vs Cheadle Hulme. A last gasp goal scored by player of the match, Freya Coggins, saw Loreto win a highly competitive match by one goal.

The game was closely contested from the outset, with both teams going goal for goal, with Cheadle Hulme just nudging into a one-goal lead after the first quarter. By the end of the first half Loreto were leading 18-15, which was a result of determination and tenacious hard work from every player on court.

Throughout the game, there was some exceptional through-court play, with every player putting into practice what they had learnt in training. The shooters showed great resilience and composure throughout the whole match, shooting at 90%+ accuracy under all sorts of pressure. Loreto’s classy attacking end was slick and fluent; quick ball movement from Lydia Forster, Eliza Rodgus and Grace McAvoy proved costly to Cheadle Hulme, exposing gaps in their defence and punishing them with exceptional shooting accuracy.  At the opposite end of the court, the defensive pressure from trio Isabelle Tyler, Giselle Yeboah and Olivia Woodcock was relentless, making Cheadle Hulme earn every goal they scored. A debut performance from Daisy Shea was also an integral part of the game, with the WD gaining some exceptional intercepts, adding to the defensive pressure. Loreto’s play was clinical throughout the whole match: even under the huge pressure of a goal for goal game, the team never cracked, and stuck to the task.

With a depleted squad and most players playing out of position, things did not look good for Loreto heading into this game. However, with perseverance and passion shown from the whole team Loreto managed to steal the win with a last second shot, Loreto’s version of the Commonwealth gold medal netball match! The final score finished Loreto 30-29 Cheadle Hulme.
