ImageLoreto has a strong tradition of academic success. Loreto students achieve, year on year, the highest A level grades of all sixth form colleges in Manchester, Salford, Tameside, Trafford. (See DfE website). The majority of Loreto students achieve grades A & B at advanced level and most subjects have 100% pass rate. In the 2010 OFSTED Report Inspectors commented that:

ImageThe results of students who recently left Loreto placed the college first out of all the Greater Manchester schools and colleges and fourth out of 1,109 schools and colleges nationwide, according to ALPS (Advanced Level Performance Systems). The ALPS publication stated that Loreto “is a very high achieving institution” and is producing similar results to “top selective independent schools.”

ImageLoreto College has the rare distinction of receiving the prestigious “Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education”. The award was presented by Her Majesty the Queen in the presence of His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh, to the Principal, Ann Clynch, at Buckingham Palace.
 
Loreto’s continued high achievement in advanced level courses has been recognised through its selection as the first recipient of the Department for Children Schools and Families Beacon Award for Advanced level. The citation noted that the college was an “outstanding example of achievement in Further Education”. 
 
Loreto has ranked as the first sixth form college in the country for value added, according to government league tables, for three years on the run.

ImageLoreto College has been described as “Outstanding in every respect” by OFSTED Inspectors in its recent inspection, published in January 2010. Loreto is the only sixth form college in Greater Manchester to have been recognised as ‘Grade 1’ (Outstanding provision and results) by Ofsted 2010 in a range of subjects, including: Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Accounting, Business Studies, Classical Civilisation, Dance, English Language, English Literature, Film Studies, Fine Art, French, German, Graphics, Law, Media, Music, Photography, Physics, Product Design Psychology, Spanish, Textiles, Theatre Studies.

ImageLoreto is Manchester’s only purpose built Sixth Form College. Students now enjoy brand new science labs, Learning Resource Centres, a well-stocked library, ICT Suites, classrooms and cafeterias, including a shop. Modern IT teaching facilities are available in all classrooms. Students have three drop-in study centres with full internet access available through PC and Mac computers. There are over 1200 student use computers on site. Specialist facilities include a dance studio, two theatres and workshop areas, sound recording studios and music technology areas and media production and editing suites. These state of the art facilities are based on a spacious, green and leafy nine acre university style campus with mature gardens. There is every opportunity to study and learn; there is also plenty of space for students to relax and enjoy life at Loreto.

Patrick Moran

“Loreto has helped me to broaden my horizons and has supported me in all I have done,” says Patrick Moran, a former St Ambrose Barlow student. Patrick is celebrating brilliant results receiving 3 A*s in German, History, & Politics and an A in AS level English Literature. Adam, who joined Loreto from Priestnall School, describes his time at Loreto as an excellent experience! Whilst at Loreto, Adam has particularly enjoyed being part of the college radio group, entertaining people. Adam achieved an A* in Geography, a grade A in Politics and a grade B in Law.  He now plans to use his excellent results to take up his place at Lancaster University, studying Geography.

Leyla joined Loreto from Manchester High School for Girls and has received a brilliant set of results, getting 4 A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry & Physics, an A in General Studies and an A in AS Biology. She also found time to go on the Biology trip to Egypt, the Rolls Royce tour and complete lots of work for charity throughout her time at Loreto. Leyla is now going on to study Chemistry at Queen’s College, Cambridge.

Katherine came to Loreto from Chorlton High School and has achieved an excellent set of results at A Level, achieving a grade A* in History, English and Spanish at A2 level. Whilst at Loreto, Katherine has enjoyed taking part in the Debating Club, badminton team and rock climbing group. Katherine says that Loreto has been a very supportive college, full of people who always go the extra mile to make college interesting and rewarding. She now looks forward to attending St Hilda’s College, Oxford.

Lydia came to Loreto from St Philip Howard and has gone on to achieve an excellent collection of grade A’s in History, Politics, General Studies and grade A* in Theology, together with grade A in English Language at AS level. While at Loreto, Lydia has enjoyed being a member of a band plus other college activities including a Charity Cake Sale. Lydia now looks forward to attending the University of Nottingham to study History and Politics.

Caitlin, who joined Loreto from St Philip Howard, has had tremendous success at A Level, securing an A* in English Language, English Literature and General Studies and grade A in History and Maths. I’ve had a brilliant time at Loreto-it’s been a great experience,” says Caitlin, who now looks forward to taking up her place to read English at Queen’s College, Cambridge.

Alice Cleary enjoyed her time at Loreto College and said, “The teachers at Loreto are all very friendly and helped me to get great grades.” Alice joined the college from Ashton-on-Mersey High School and gained fantastic A levels with grade A* in Geography and ICT, grade A in General Studies, grade B in Maths and an AS in Economics at grade B.  Alice now plans to go to Leicester University to continue her studies in Geography.

Former St Ambrose Barlow student Dominic has gained excellent A2 level results, receiving an A* in Maths and Physics, two grade As in Chemistry and Further Maths and a B in AS French. Dominic says of his time at Loreto, “It has been a good experience and I have had a lot of support to get into University.” Dominic is now off to study Engineering at Worcester College, Oxford.

“Loreto is a fantastic college and I had a great time over my two years,” says Rachel Ward. Rachel originally joined Loreto from St Peters RC High School. She went on to achieve brilliant A level results, grade A* in Psychology, grade A in Photography; grade B in Media Studies and Theatre Studies. Rachel is now going to Manchester Metropolitan University to study Criminology.

Ellen came to Loreto from St Ambrose Barlow and now her plans for the future include attending university to embark on a Law degree. Ellen achieved an outstanding set of grades at A Level: Psychology A*, Law A, English Language and Literature A, Art A and general studies A*. Whilst at Loreto, Ellen has taken part in our debating group, Cognito and the college choir. Ellen says Loreto, “Loreto has definitely helped shape me as a person and supported me in achieving my goals.”

“The only way to miss success is to miss the opportunity,” says Merveille Mankoto. Merveille took up the opportunities offered at Loreto College and succeeded in gaining great A Level results: Sociology A, Economics B and French B. After joining Loreto from Our Lady’s RC High School, Merveille also volunteered for the homeless person’s party and was part of the college’s netball team during her time at College. Merveille now plans to travel and continue her studies at university.

Lawrence, a former student of St Philip Howard, loves music and climbing; a keen volunteer too, he has taken part in college events such as the Homeless Persons Christmas Party and taken part in the Loreto Showcase. Lawrence says of Loreto, “Best college in the UK!” Lawrence has achieved an excellent set of A Level results: Geography A* and grade B in Maths, Computing, Classical Civilisation and Physics.  He now looks forward to his degree at Liverpool University studying Aerospace Engineering.

Chendu Zhou says of Loreto, “An exciting place, friendly people and helpful teachers: a great college!” He got great A Level results with grade A* in 3D Design, A in accounting, B in Mathematics and grade C in Physics. Chendu enjoyed playing badminton at the college and also volunteered at open days. Chendu is now pursuing an Architecture degree at Newcastle University.

Thomas left Loreto with excellent A level results - three grade As in Computing, Physics and Mathematics plus a grade C in General Studies.  Thomas is now at The University of Warwick studying Mechanical Engineering.

Rachel was very successful during her time at Loreto. Rachel picked up two grade As in Art and Design and Textiles and two grade Bs in History and General Studies at A level. Rachel is now at Manchester Metropolitan University studying Foundation Art and Design.
