The early development of the USA was the topic as thirty five lower sixth AS History students, accompanied by Mrs Murray and Miss Jackson, made the short trip to Manchester University to attend a lecture given by Dr Natalie Zacek, with the long, but intriguing, title: ‘Making America: How Thirteen Un-united Colonies Became a (Somewhat) United States.’

Mrs Murray felt that Dr Zacek, from the American Studies Department at the university, gave our students a fantastic opportunity to get an overview of what they’ll be studying this year, and first-hand experience of a university level lecture.

Student Grace Leary commented: ‘It was great to learn about what we are going to study this year: the Boston Tea Party sounds really interesting! Getting to be in a university lecture and take notes was a good experience as well; it gave me an insight into what university will be like.’
