The roll call of Loreto sporting internationals has a new name: BTEC Sport student Ed Irving. Ed was introduced to the sport of handball whilst a pupil at Sale Grammar and has now been playing competitively since the age of thirteen. Ed enjoys the speed and physicality of the game, a game that demands high levels of fitness and total commitment; there are no ‘passengers’ in a game of handball and nowhere to hide! At club level Ed represents Warrington Wolves and was selected for England when he was sixteen. He has since moved on to the G.B. U18 and U20 squad, their collective ambition being participation in the 2024 Olympics. Ed’s international career has seen him taking part in fixtures and tournaments all over Great Britain, and further afield in Hungary, Austria and Portugal. At a recent U18 tournament in Kosovo, organised by the I.H.F. (International Handball Federation) the GB team became the first from these shores to win a medal at an international tournament, coming away with a coveted silver.
