Love was in the air this week at Loreto. Cupid was hard at work. Students at the college developed a scheme to show someone they care by sending a Valentine in the form of a rose.

The roses were delivered through the week during tutorial time, surprising many and making them smile with joy (and a few blushes).

One student said, “getting flowers on valentine’s day is so romantic”. The tradition of giving flowers on Valentine’s day dates back to the nineteenth century when Victorians used floral bouquets to deliver a message to love interests — that they were, in fact, interested. This system is called “floriography,” and it officially solidified the rose’s romantic status.
