Loreto has a proud record in this national competition, organised annually by the Royal Society of Chemistry. Students from all over the country take part, sitting an extremely challenging two hour exam (in their own time), comprising difficult mathematical problem solving questions on a diverse range of topics. Our students had to demonstrate sound scientific knowledge, intellectual flexibility and stamina in order to succeed. Mr Fielding and Dr Pendleton, who coordinated our participation, were delighted, initially, by the number of students who got involved, and even more by the success that followed. Loreto received twenty awards, placing those students in the top 30% nationwide. Our haul of awards consisted of eleven bronze, eight silver and one gold, the latter being won by Alex Jackson, who has an offer to study Chemistry at Oxford.

Presenting the awards, Assistant Principal Mr Gaughan was delighted to acknowledge the academic achievements of our Chemistry students.
