31 Oxbridge offers:
This year 31 Loreto College students have had an offer to study at one of the top two universities in the UK: University of Oxford and University of Cambridge.
The subjects are wide ranging: Engineering, Geography, Medicine, Asian and Eastern Studies, Law (Jurisprudence), Modern Languages, Education, Music, PPE, Mathematics, English Literature & Language, Linguistics, Human Sciences, Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology, Theology, Religion & Philosophy, History and Physics.
The successful students come to Loreto from a wide variety of high schools from across the region, including Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Oldham, Trafford, and Manchester.

Those with Oxbridge potential are identified by GCSE results and academic performance once they arrive. They are then offered a bespoke programme designed to develop students’ debating and thinking skills, whilst providing insight into, and knowledge of, the application process. It includes presentations from university staff, a competitive university conference and preparation for interviews. An in-house team of specialist teachers has years of experience in guiding applicants successfully. Academics from both universities regularly visit Loreto and deliver a range of sessions including subject specific classes and application seminars. They aim to make sure that the students are suited to the demands of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge (ranked 1st and 5th in the Times Higher Education World rankings) and will thrive in the demanding academic environment.
Ms Tattersall Oxbridge Co-ordinator at Loreto said “We are incredibly proud of all our students who went through the rigorous Oxbridge application process this year. We’re delighted that so many have been offered places. It’s also wonderful to see the wide range of subjects that our students have chosen to study, with applicants from every faculty of the college. We are sure they will receive a warm welcome from our 70 Loreto alumni already studying at the two universities”

Loreto College is also the HE Plus Hub for the Central Manchester consortium. This initiative is designed to challenge academically the brightest young people in our inner cities, to raise aspirations and encourage applications to very selective universities. Each year over two hundred students from Loreto and other partner schools and colleges take part in a range of academic extension classes, degree level masterclasses and visits, which develop and challenge them throughout the year.
We wish our students the very best in their studies.
