  • Six GCSEs 9-4 (or A*-C)
  • Two from English, Maths OR Science

BTEC Sport Overview

BTEC Sport qualifications enable students to become occupationally ready to take up employment in the sport sector either straight from college or after Higher Education. We offer three BTEC Sport qualifications, the Extended Diploma (3 A Level equivalent), National Diploma (2 A Level equivalent) and the Extended Certificate (1 A Level equivalent). These courses will provide you with meaningful work experience, which relates to your chosen career.

National Diploma (2 A Level equivalent)

On the National Diploma, you will study 9 units across the two years of the course:

  • Unit 1: Anatomy & Physiology
  • Unit 2: Fitness Training & Programming for Health, Sport & Wellbeing
  • Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry
  • Unit 4: Sports Leadership
  • Unit 5: Application of Fitness Testing
  • Unit 7:Practical Sports Performance
  • Unit 8:Coaching Performance
  • Unit 22: Investigating Business in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry
  • Unit 23: Skill Acquisition in Sport

 

Assessment:

Three exams : 45%

Coursework units: 55%

Please note: If you select this 2 A level equivalent course, you will need to select one additional subject to complete your programme of study. 

 

Skills

Whilst completing the BTEC National Diploma in Sport, you will develop a wide range of skills, that will be beneficial to your next steps into employment or Higher Education. For example, whilst studying fitness testing you will be required to complete a consultation process with a client and devise a suite of fitness tests to complete with their client and provide verbal feedback and recommendations for improvement.

Whilst studying investigating business in the leisure industry  you will learn how to interpret business information and make informed judgements to develop the business.

In anatomy and physiology you will develop your understanding of the body’s systems and apply this understanding in an external assessment.  In fitness training and programming you will need to provide lifestyle, nutritional and training advice for a client in a synoptic assessment.

Destinations

Students progress onto a wide variety of sports related degrees, for example Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Therapy, Sports Nutrition, Sports Rehabilitation, Sports Psychology, Primary/Secondary School Teaching, Sports and Leisure Management.

On the Extended Certificate , you will complete a total of 4 units across the 2 years. The units are:
Unit 1: Anatomy & Physiology
Unit 2: Fitness Training & Programming for Health, Sport & Wellbeing

On the National Diploma, you will complete 9 units across two years. The units are:

What other A Levels/vocational courses could I do along with Sport?

It is possible to study almost every course alongside our Extended Certificate (1 A Level Equivalent)/National Diploma (2 A Level equivalent) in Sport courses, however there are some A Level/Vocational courses that are a particularly suitable match. Some of these include:

Business Studies
Applied Science

How many exams will I have?

The National Diploma course includes 3 external assessments that are split across the 2 years:
Unit 1: Anatomy & Physiology will be completed in the first year.
Unit 2: Fitness Training & Programming for Health, Sport & Wellbeing will be completed in the second year.

Will I do any practical work?

Students on the National Diploma programmes complete 7 Practical Assessments across the 2 years. These include:
Practical Sports Performance in 2 different sports
Sports Coaching Session
Fitness Testing Delivery
Sports Leadership Sessions
Job Interview
Exercise Session for Specific Groups
Delivery of skills sessions using different teaching styles

What kind of degree courses will I be able to do after studying Sport?
