Loreto’s Geography students headed to the beautiful Welsh coast to develop key skills as part of their A level course.

The students carried out fieldwork activities at Llandudno in North Wales including calculating beach profiles, investigating weathering and mass movement on the Little Orme cliffs and seeing how different stretches of the coast are protected from the power of the sea. It was also a chance to develop team work with the added bonus of spotting seals who seemed curious to see what the students were doing.
Head of Geography Mr Grundy said the trip was a great success and excellent preparation for the individual geographical investigations students complete next year.

“Llandudno provides the students with an great opportunity to develop their fieldwork skills in a beautiful setting,” he said

“And by offering day trips throughout the year we ensure all the students get the skills they need while keeping the costs affordable for everyone,” he added.
The fieldwork is the first of four days over the two year course, culminating in students producing a 3,000 word piece of coursework in their upper sixth year.
