A sunny -ish Salford Quays was the destination for Loreto College’s lower-sixth geographers to perfect their fieldwork skills.
In preparation for their coursework, the students toured The Quays to see how the area had been redeveloped and transformed since the Manchester Docks closed in the 1980s, leaving a derelict and polluted wasteland. They conducted surveys and interviews to collect data and utilised a classroom inside The Lowry to crunch and analyse their numbers.
Head of Geography Mr Grundy said the students had gained the skills they needed to produce their own 3,000-word individual investigation. This piece of work is 20% of the A level and  Geography students must complete 4 days of fieldwork as part of their course.
