Loreto College’s three-day trip to Granada, Spain was an unforgettable experience filled with culture, history, and the vibrant spirit of flamenco.
On the first day, we kicked off with a visit to the Mirador de San Nicolás. We were able to walk through the colourful streets of Granada and enjoy panoramic views of the Alhambra against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains. In the evening, we immersed ourselves in local culture by taking a flamenco class in one of the dance schools built in the caves of the Granada region. We learned the basics of the flamenco dance, feeling the rhythm and soul of AndalucÃa.
The second day took us to the Museo de Bellas Artes, housed in the historic Palacio de Carlos V. The museum’s extensive collection of Spanish art, including works from the Renaissance to the modern era, offered us an insight into the country’s artistic heritage. That night, we attended a flamenco show, where talented dancers and musicians brought the art form, that we had learnt the previous day, to life with their powerful performances. An amazing experience!
Our final day was dedicated to exploring the Alhambra, a magnificent palace and fortress complex rich with Moorish history. Walking through its intricate halls and lush gardens, we were transported back in time. To cap off our trip, we indulged in traditional Spanish cuisine, savouring dishes like paella, tapas, salmorejo and churros. This culinary experience was the perfect way to conclude our journey, leaving us with lasting memories of Granada’s flavours and hospitality.
