Loreto College Upper Sixth students participating in the Aspire to Teach enrichment activity, had an incredible and rewarding experience at St Teresa’s Primary School in Stretford during their second visit. They observed lessons and assisted in the classroom during a three-week placement. One student shared their thoughts:
“It has been really fun to be hands-on in the class and to have the pupils ask us questions, but I’m still not used to being called ‘Sir.‘”
The students also took on various responsibilities typical of primary school teachers, such as marking books, supporting assemblies, and organising the library from A to Z (see picture) – a task that turned out to be more challenging than expected!
Next, the students will organise specific placements for themselves, allowing them to gain experience in areas most relevant to their future careers. Some plan to visit speech therapy offices, while others aim to gain experience in high schools, as they intend to work in that environment in the future.
