Students from Loreto’s Politics Society attended the final day of the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool this September. The day began with a discussion featuring Yvette Cooper, the General Secretary of the Labour Party and Home Secretary.
The group toured various conference stalls that represented a range of pressure groups and had the opportunity to meet Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson along the way.
Students also spoke with a Sky News reporter and watched the live filming of the BBC’s Politics Live.
In the Conference Hall, they observed a vote on current party policy, listened to Ellie Reeves’ closing speech, and witnessed the long-standing Labour Party tradition of singing “The Red Flag” and “Jerusalem” as the conference concluded. Overall, the day provided students with valuable insights into the world of party politics.
