Lucy Powell (Labour MP of Manchester Central) returned for the second time to Loreto college for a Q&A at a controversial time in British politics.
As well as answering questions regarding the dissolving NHS, homelessness and other social issues in her own constituency, Lucy explained why she will be voting for triggering Article 50 later this week. Gaining an insight in to the parliamentary working and her take on representation, was not only fascinating, but highly relevant to the Government & Politics course.
Lucy Powell gave all the students a further insight into what it really means to be an MP and the difficult decisions that are inevitable in this career. One student, Jake Britner, said that “It is easy for people my age to assume that MPs have a limited impact in the lives of everyday people; but Lucy Powell’s talk and her responses to questions proved me wrong.”
