The brilliant Band on the Wall venue boasts not only great beer and even better music it boasts a time machine in the way of a front door on entering one is met by the faces of musical legends who have played the Band on the Wall their faces packed so tightly together that they almost become the wall.

Loreto College musicians, along with friends and colleagues from Loreto High in Chorlton did these legends proud again.   A variety of bands and soloists performed their, now annual, evening of Jazz  and Blues incorporating Funk, Latin, Fusion and Swing; impressing a rapped audience of more than 200 with their enthusiasm talent, and charm. The big band sounds of Loreto High Jazz Band tempted people in from the smart bar area  in, as usual the sound quality was amazing and this emphasised the talent of the band members taken from all year groups. Parents, teachers and Students alike and students alike were swinging along to classics such as It Don’t Mean a Thing (if it ain’t Got That Swing’)

LS Funk and Soul continued the quality with their beautiful version of Respect and their great interpretation of Worksong and You Might need Somebody, which completely captivated the audience

Other highlights was a moving rendition of Careless Whispers from the Loreto High’s year 11 band , followed by Autumn Leaves, a beautiful a tribute to Eva Cassidy

Summertime, an arrangement sang by Funyana Okorie mesmerised the audience with her amazing rendition of Summer Time while Francesca Forbes weaved her magic with weaved her magic with her brilliant interpretation of Pounds of Soul.

Tribute must also go o the teacher organisers for their hard work – Mr David Lloyd-Mostyn and Mr David Pearson: who could not resist joining in the musical festivities on guitar and keyboards

The thoroughly entertaining evening demonstrated s a combination of the old and new working together in an amazing way to say goodbye to some students while welcoming the future talents of Loreto High.

An evening of complete harmony.
