Loreto students studying Fine Art, 3D Design, Graphics, Photography and Textiles are fortunate to live and study in a city like Manchester, with its thriving cultural scene offering numerous opportunities for those interested in the Arts. However, Loreto’s Arts related subjects do not confine themselves to what Manchester has to offer: they look to other cities in the UK, and further afield, as the recent residential trip to New York demonstrated.

A mix of upper and lower sixth students had the opportunity to gather valuable primary reference material for their Related Study, Personal Investigation Unit and the Externally Set Assignment. As well as visiting some of the most prestigious galleries in the city, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art and the Howard Greenberg Gallery, students also visited many smaller private galleries, and were fortunate to attend a talk at a textile design studio in Manhattan, where they learnt much about the design process and gained an insight into related career paths. The students visited several other sites of cultural interest, such as the Empire State Building, the Williamsburg district in Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Bridge, The World Trade Centre Memorial, Wall Street, Times Square and the Statue of Liberty.

As well as the trip being highly enjoyable and inspirational, the students benefited by developing their interpersonal skills, expanding their knowledge and gaining a broader perspective of the wider world.
