On 10th September, Upper Sixth Student Laura Edwards went to the Houses of Parliament for #GenDevo – an event ran by Parliament Outreach in partnership with British Youth Council.
Laura is the Member of Youth Parliament for Salford and she spoke alongside the Chair’s of the Scottish, Welsh & Northern Irish Youth Council’s as an English delegate. The event was chaired by Mhairi Black MP (the youngest ever MP) and opened by the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow.
Laura spoke on and questioned the absence of a devolved assembly for England – was it fair that  in 2004tScottish votes were decisive on the Bill that implemented tuition fees for young people in England? She also spoke on the upcoming devolution deal (DevoManc) for Greater Manchester. She also explained how Youth Council’s from across Greater Manchester are forming a Youth Assembly, to ensure that decisions made with the powers our region will get are the best decisions for young people.
