The first quarter started a closely contested affair with SGS stifling the home sides offence with a 2/3 zone. Once the game settled though it would be Loreto who went on an 8-2 run to end the period 22-9. The second quarter showed much of the same with the home team going into the break with a 42-20 lead, despite a valiant effort from AJ Edu who finished the contest with a game high 20 points.
SGS upped the defensive intensity in the second half. However, it was Loreto who showed a much improved consistency on recent weeks from beyond the arc, going for 11 made 3 point field goals. Loreto secured a 78-55 victory by the final whistle.
Coach Peter Paraskeva commented after the game ‘Really happy with the way we moved the ball today against their zone. This is probably the most balanced team performance of the season’
Loreto’s top scorers were Arinze Emeka-anyakwo, 16, Micheal Anumba, 15 and Freddie Rouse with a season high 12 points.
The leaders for SGS were AJ Edu, 20, Ebuka Ekwegh, 10 and Corey Samuels with 9.
Next week sees Loreto at home again hosting Allerton.
