AS Photography student Kiya Jordan was delighted to be declared the winner of her category in a competition set by the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council). The brief was to take a photograph showing how you see the world around you from a social science perspective. The competition offered five diverse categories. There were over 850 entries in total. Sophie Batterbury, who is the Picture Editor of The Independent on Sunday, was one of the judges on the panel. Kiya attended the private view and awards event at the Espacio Gallery in London, along with her photography tutor and her mother. She was delighted to receive a very impressive award, certificate and a voucher.

Kiya reflected that it was a great experience and she was proud to see her work displayed and commended by industry professionals, observing that: “It was a long but rewarding day and I was really pleased to be a part of it.”

In further recognition of her achievement Kiya was invited to the studios of Radio Manchester, where she gave an interview broadcast live to the whole Greater Manchester area and beyond.

The work of Georgia Senior, another photography student at Loreto, was also selected to form part of the exhibition.
